The Denver Broncos continue to strengthen their roster as training camp winds down, this time adding an experienced NFL safety. The team officially agreed to terms with Taylor Rapp on August 20, just days after the player worked out for Denver on August 12.

Taylor Rapp Returns to the Denver Broncos After a Free-Agent Period

Rapp, 28, entered free agency in March 2026 after the Buffalo Bills terminated the final year of his contract. According to the available information, the move helped Buffalo create approximately $3 million in salary cap space.

Rapp had spent three seasons with Buffalo after beginning his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams, who selected him in the second round, 61st overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington.

The Signing Followed a Workout With the Broncos

Rapp's signing with Denver was not entirely unexpected, as the safety worked out with the team on August 12 to evaluate his readiness and fit in the secondary.

Eight days later, the two sides reached an official agreement, adding Rapp to the Broncos' roster for the remainder of training camp and the preseason.

Injury Affected Rapp's Final Season With Buffalo

Rapp's final season with Buffalo was affected by injury, as he underwent knee surgery midway through the 2025 season, which kept him out for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.

Rapp played in just six regular-season games in 2025, recording 26 total tackles, including 17 solo tackles. After being placed on injured reserve, his season ended early, and he entered free agency in March 2026.

His 2024 Season Provides a Different Picture

Before his injury-plagued season, Rapp started 14 games for Buffalo in 2024, recording 75 total tackles, including 41 solo tackles, along with two interceptions and six pass deflections.

Those numbers highlight the experience Rapp brings to Denver, although how much of an impact he can make after returning from his knee injury will remain something to watch during the preseason.
